Smedjan
Today we look into my track Smedjan.
I hope this peek into my project can be of value to you!
Part 1: How it’s made
Edit: Insert Silence should be [CTRL/CMD] + I
Part 2: Send & Returns
Part 2 covers the three main sounds that we couldn't dig into during the previous video, as I had resampled them.
I still had some issues recording third-party plugins. It's not essential to see the settings as I explain what the plugins are and what they're doing.
I also explain basic psycho-acoustic phenomena and hardware mechanics.
Elaborations
Here's a diagram that shows how our ear and mind alter the incoming sound.
The dotted line above is the loudness in dB SPL that our ear can register across the spectrum. As you see, it's most sensitive around 2-4 kHz.
As the overall amplitude get louder, this curve changes. That is why monitoring levels are essential as it alters our perception.
85 dB SPL is usually a healthy level for music production. Increasing it now and then to get some vibes flowing is OK, as long as it is not for too long.
I don't always care about my hearing. The rush of the experience is worth losing my hearing a bit, haha. When I am deaf, I'll change my career, haha.
